Hey everyone!

So I know it has been a while since we have posted a blog so sorry! BUT, don't worry since we have lots of news to tell you guys. First of all, WE WON 1st PLACE IN INTERNATIONAL FIESTA!!! I know most of our members have worked their butts off for this achievement. And E-Board is so proud you! I know all of our hard work has finally paid off. This has been a breakout year for FASA and we all owe it to each and every member that contributed. So here is a thanks to all of our members for making this a year that none of us will ever forget.

FASA has just performed one of their amazing dances at a fashion show hosted by one of UB's own LGBTA. Some of the proceeds go to Relay for Life so it was for a great cause. FASA performed binasuan which is a cultural dance based on balance done with cups either on the person's head or hands. It is truly an amazing dance that anyone can see if they watch our performance for international fiesta 2010. Watch for FASA's performance next year!

Although this semester is fast approaching the end, that does not mean FASA is anywhere close to hosting events. On April 3-4th, FASA is holding its annual camping trip. This is a trip where ALL FASA members get together and spend a weekend together and form lasting bonds. We will have smores, baked goods and fun all around.

On April 14th, in conjunction with AASU, TSA, VSA, KSA, and ακΔφ, we will host DAVID CHOI! David Choi is an self-proclaimed Asian American singer, song-writer and producer. He has made himself famous by doing covers and originals of pop songs on YouTube. David's talent is expressed through his amazing musical and vocal skills. His tracks have been heard on NBC, VH1, MTV, A&E, E! Travel Channel, Disney and more. His will be performing his top hits and answer questions which will be followed by a meet and greet. So I hope you guys come out and support! He will put on a performance that you guys will not want to miss!!!

And last of all, FASA's annual GALA is coming up very soon. The date is APRIL 17th @ Pearl Street Grill and Brewery!!! This is truly going to be the finishing touch for every member for this fantastic year. The venue is a great setting for our theme (the 1902s) and is an awesome place to have our final goodbye. We as Eboard cannot wait!!!

As much as we cannot stop this year coming to an end, we as E-Board cannot be prouder for all our members and all the hours that went into our achievements. We could not ask for a more dedicated and passionate group of students this year.

We will never forget, FASA 2010

Hello everyone!
BARRIO FIESTA 2009: DIWATA is rapidly approaching! Our show is in less than a week, on December 5, 2009 at 6PM in the SU Theatre. Tickets are now on sale at the SBI Ticket Office.

Our amazing show is about the Legend of Maria Makiling, a beautiful forest enchantress. It is a beautiful and intriguing story where love, drama, comedy and drama unfolds. Our play is written by the wonderful FASA President, Angeli.

Synopsis: The Legend of Maria Makiling

Philippine mythology tells of a time long ago, when deities walked and lived among human beings. One of these deities, the Diwata, is a mythical goddess of nature who inhabits the forest, air, or sea. The forests around Mount Makiling are said to be inhabited by a Diwata by the name of Maria. Maria Makiling is said to be an intensely emotional enchantress who takes the form of a beautiful young woman. Many stories are told about her, several of which portray her as a scorned lover—a goddess who falls in love with a mortal only to be betrayed or separated from him. FASA’s take on the legend throws in some other figures from traditional folklore: the Mangkukulam, an evil witch who recites spells, mixes potions, and summons demons to do her will; the Kapre, a giant who lives among the trees and specializes in playing tricks on humans; even Juan Tamad, “Lazy John,” the joke of many a Philippine tale. Our story follows Maria Makiling and Emil—a young farmer who sets off on a journey to find out if love really does conquer all.

Tickets are $8 in advanced and $10 at the door. Get your tickets at the SBI Ticket office now because they're selling out fast! Or, you can purchase them from an e-board member.

Also, we will be tabling on Monday (11/30) and Friday (12/4) this week in the Student Union. You are more than welcome to come help promote Barrio, purchase tickets or just come say hello.

Have a great week guys and we look forward to seeing you all Saturday!

Hello everyone,

As you may have heard, the Philippines has been hit by a devastating typhoon. The death toll as of September 30, 2009 is 250 and is still rising. 80% of Manila is submerged in water, 390,000 people are displaced and the homes of 2.3 million people are affected. Residents are standing on rooftops seeking help, wading in waters in search of food, shelter and loved ones. They need your help.

In this state of calamity we need to persevere and make a difference. The Filipino American Student Association would like to invite you to attend as well as participate in our Open Mic/Coffee Shop Fundraiser, “Stage Support- A Fundraiser for the Typhoon Ondoy Victims,” on Sunday, October 11, 2009 from 6PM-10PM in 210SU at the University at Buffalo. 100% of the proceeds will be going to the Philippines Red Cross. There will be a variety of performances including singing, dancing, comedy and much more. Your organization is also invited to perform. (Please refer to below for more details).

There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door, which will give you 2 tickets for pastries, coffee and drinks. More tickets are available for purchase at the event. Food donations for our event are also welcome. We are looking for pastries such as donuts, cakes, brownies and muffins (with a food permit). Please invite your members, friends, family, colleagues, classmates, housemates, and anyone else you know to this event. We must take action as soon as possible to help those who are in need. You can e-mail us at BuffaloFASA@gmail.com or stop by our office in 373 SU if you have any questions.

I hope everyone is enjoying their last couple days of summer before classes begins. And for all those who are driving/flying/busing/training up there in the next couple of days- have a safe trip! We absolutely cannot wait to see all your cute faces again!

Barrio Fiesta 2009 is in the works. I hope you are all as excited as we are. We have big plans this year. We aren't going to say what it is about just yet- but note that it is going to be quite different from the Barrio you have seen in the past few years. Partly because our beloved Ralph Cecelio has gradated (sadface). So, we are taking a spin on things. Our story this year is derived from Ralph's idea, though. Inspired by Ralph, written by Angeli. So his legend will remain with us! Please keep in mind that we are looking for actors, dancers, choreographers and possibly singers & musicians!

To all our fans outside of the Buffalo community- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep December 5th free and come watch our show! As always, it will be a wonderful gather to see new and old FASA members. We hope to see you all there. And like previous years, we will definitely be able to accommodate you guys. Especially since majority of FASA now live in apartments. After party is expected.

A few important notes:

-Fall Fest is September 5, 2009. (Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Lupe Fiasco & Common) We will most likely be working that day as a fundraiser (hopefully at the carnival- that's always fun!). Stay tuned. If any of you would like to volunteer, pencil us into your planner. You will be able to see the show if we are working the carnival.

-Our meetings will be every Monday at 8PM in 330 SU.

A little introduction on our 2009-2010 E-Board should be up before classes start (Aug 31). Get to know us a little better =)

Hey All,

So summer orientation has ended last week for incoming freshmen. Thats why we decided to give you a little update. Summer orientation was a huge success! We had many kids sign up on our mailing list and hopefully they will all come out to our meetings. We always welcome any new members to check us out! If any of you guys were not able to stop by at orientation, there will be photos that you can check to see how our tables looked like. It would greatly help if any of you guys can promote the club through the word of mouth also. Most of our growing in size is due to you guys telling one or two friends about this club. Soon enough, it'll be like a waterfall effect and everyone would have heard of FASA. :)

Anyways, FASA E-Board is currrently working really hard to plan fun and exciting events for you guys to enjoy throughout the semester. We all miss our members and hope to see all of you guys in three weeks! Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Hello all!

I hope everyone is enjoy their summer. To start off, I would like to inform everyone that Barrio Fiesta 2009 is in the works! We are all working earnestly in making Barrio Fiesta wonderful. Fall 2009 is underway; we have many events planned, summer stories to share, and new faces to greet. Be prepared!

In the past two years since this blog has been updated, we showcased Barrio Fiesta 2007: Bonifacio, and Barrio Fiesta 2008: Rise Up.

We also placed third in International Fiesta in 2008. Of course, we could not make any of this possible without the dedication of our members. We truly appreciate everything that you have all done for us in the past.

We hope to see you all again in September!

Enjoy the rest of the summer. Hopefully I'll see your adorable faces soon. :)

Love,
Alison
